7th May 2025

IOI Mall Kulai food guide

When we’re in Johor Bahru, most of us tend to frequent Mid Valley Southkey and KSL City to shop and makan. For a change, consider heading to IOI Mall Kulai, a newly renovated mall that’s a 40-minute drive from the Tuas Checkpoint. In this food guide, we’ve curated the 10 best places to get fried chicken, comforting Japanese ramen, cheap hotpot and more.

The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 7 May 2025.

1. Nando’s

lunch deals in the West Nando's

Nando’s is no stranger to us: this restaurant chain, known for flame-grilled marinated chicken, has six outlets in Singapore alone. You can also find them at IOI Mall Kulai, serving the crowd-favourite PERi-honey Chicken Thigh Bowl (RM23.90), which features chicken thigh on skewers slathered in honey and yuzu sauce, paired with edamame and fresh seasonal peppers on Mediterranean rice. Another popular pick is the PERi-Mac & Cheese Bowl (RM18.90), which is essentially macaroni topped with fried crumbs, pulled chicken, and cheese. Otherwise, since the restaurant specialises in chicken, you might just want to go straight for the Chicken Wings with Sides (from RM27.90), namely Chips, Garlic Bread, and Chargrilled Veg.

2. CHAGEE

Our team is a huge fan of CHAGEE, a popular tea brand that constantly sees snaking lines at every outlet in Singapore. You can get their drinks at cheaper prices without joining a long queue here, with the Yunnan Puer Snowy Frappe costing just RM17.90. This gorgeous drink features a rich pu’er tea blend topped with cream and caramelised Belgian cookie crumbs. For something simple, we recommend the Jasmine Green Milk Tea (from RM11.90) and Osmanthus Long Jing Tea (from RM12.90), both boasting a subtle floral fragrance.

3. LLAO LLAO

Hailing from Spain, LLAO LLAO is one of the most popular frozen yoghurt brands around, with a history of more than 15 years. A huge cup of Sanum (RM21.90) is value for money, as you get a frozen yoghurt base with three fruits, two crunches, and a drizzle of your choice. It’s also great for sharing if you’re worried you can’t finish it on your own! For a mess-free treat to have on the go, their Smoothie (from RM18.90) is an equally delicious alternative; it features blended frozen yoghurt with two toppings of your choice.

4. Kenny Rogers Roasters

There’s no place like Kenny Rogers Roasters for a hearty meal out with your family. The restaurant chain is known for their rotisserie-roasted chicken, so we recommend getting Kenny’s Half meal (RM41.50++), which gives you a rotisserie-roasted half chicken alongside three side dishes of your choice and a corn muffin. If you prefer fried to roasted chicken, consider the Nasi Lemak Solo (RM18.90++) instead. You can substantiate your meal with  all-day treats including Onion Rings (RM7.90++) and Nuggets and Wedges Mix (RM9.90++). Every order is served with a lemon ranch dip or signature cheese sauce, depending on what you prefer.

5. Cha Tra Mue

There’s a reason why the Thai-famous Cha Tra Mue has been around for so long, since 1945. Their menu is divided into five categories: Classic, Special, Frappe, Coffee, and Latte. From the former, we recommend the Thai Milk Tea (from RM8.90), boasting a sweet and caramelly flavour with hints of spices. If you prefer an icedblended drink, the Thai Lemon Tea Frappe (RM13.50) is a refreshing treat to beat the heat. Do note that you can choose your desired sugar level from as low as 5% to as high as 130%.

Of course, there are your regular miso ramen, but some come with lesser-seen proteins such as the Smoked Duck Ichiban Ramen (RM22.90++). The Pakej D (RM8.80), featuring a chicken burger and mashed potatoes, doesn’t even cost $3! Alternatively, consider their flexi combo, where you can mix and match a main meal and a side or drink of your choice at just RM6.90.
