For the uninitiated, Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway is a hawker stall started by ex-MasterChef Asia finalist Aaron Wong. After its successful Telok Blangah launch in September 2020, the humble mee hoon kway stall has since expanded to five more locations islandwide—the latest being its Toa Payoh branch, which opened on 2 January 2022.

Go straight for the Signature Dry Mee Hoon Kway ($3.50), featuring al dente handmade noodles coated with a slightly smokey sauce. Otherwise, the Signature All-In Combo Soup Mee Hoon Kway ($5) is a great alternative if you’re up for something soupy. The soup version comes with meaty toppings of pork slices and meat balls, served atop a rich pork-based broth thickened with egg swirls.

As the noodles are handmade daily, you can expect them to be fresh and chewy every time you order. Each sheet of mee hoon kway is rolled and sliced to order, which ensures the noodles stay translucent with a QQ texture. If you prefer longer strands, ban mian is offered too.

Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway Toa Payoh opens from 8am daily, which means you can get your noodle fix for brekkie if you wish. Do factor in some waiting time due to the tedious made-to-order process that goes behind the scenes.

If TPY is out of the way for you, the stall has other branches at Bugis, Jurong West, and Telok Blangah. For more MHK recommendations, read our Mr Mee Hoon Kueh review.
