Joy Luck Teahouse opens its sixth outlet at Sun Plaza in Sembawang this coming 18 February. The launch of this new outlet coincides with the seventh day of the Lunar New Year, which according to Chinese customs is the day human beings were created, and is thus everybody’s birthday.

This outlet will be located at #01-13 in Sun Plaza, on the same floor as McDonald’s and Starbucks.

Northies looking to avoid the crowd at Joy Luck Teahouse’s Woodlands branch can rejoice at this new outlet’s opening, serving up their ever-popular signature egg tarts. With this new outlet, it will potentially cut waiting times that go up to 30 minutes at Joy Luck’s more popular outlets.

Joy Luck Teahouse will be introducing a new Crispy Condensed Milk Bun ($2.90) which is exclusive to the new Sun Plaza outlet from 18 February to 21 February 2021, before it’s introduced at their other outlets islandwide. This bun promises to be crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside, dashed with condensed milk, reminiscent of traditional Hong Kong Teahouses.

For those uninitiated to Joy Luck Teahouse, it is the combination of three popular Hong Kong culinary brands: Hoover Cake shop, Kam Kee Café, and Tak Hing Fish Ball Company. It became an instant hit among locals, as seen from the snaking long queues especially at their Bugis and ION Orchard branches, with buyers often buying their egg tarts and polo buns in bulk.

Joy Luck Teahouse is particularly known for their Hoover Egg Tart ($2.30) which comes with either the crumbly cookie skin or the flakier pastry skin.

You can wash down the savoury goodness with their equally popular Hong Kong-Style Milk Tea ($3.50 for hot or $3.80 for iced), which is made using Joy Luck Teahouse’s own exclusive recipe that comprises Sri Lankan leaves and European evaporated milk.
