Good news for Easties—Monk’s Brew Club has taken over the space where Beer Basket used to be, becoming the newest addition to the plethora of Katong cafes. This new work-friendly cafe offers hearty brunch, dinner, and coffee-spiked cocktails.

The cafe’s industrial aesthetic often leads visitors to mistake it for a tech office or co-working space. Decorated with vibrant splashes of green and pink to reflect its branding, Monk’s Brew Club offers comfortable sofas for relaxation and smaller tables for getting work done.

They also provide toys and playing mats for children so busy parents can keep their little ones entertained while they hustle away.

Heading up to the second level, you’ll find the cafe’s exclusive working area reserved for members. The space is well-equipped with ample seating, charging ports, meeting rooms, and even soundproof ceilings for peace and quiet.

Access to the second floor requires registration for their packages starting from $10 for a half-day session. What’s more, this deal includes a complimentary coffee of your choice, making it quite a good deal!

The brunch menu features affordable mains priced under $25, with popular picks including the Rainbow Pancake ($22), Lucky One Cereal ($20), and Salmon Avo Toast ($20).

While we were there, we tried their Falafel Fusion Burger ($22), comprising house-made brioche buns layered with a fresh falafel patty, grilled basil oregano, kale pesto, and paneer cottage cheese. It also comes with your choice of crispy fries or salad—we recommend the former, lightly seasoned with Monk’s Umami Spice, for a more filling meal.

If you’re visiting late, be sure to check out their dinner menu, which is available only after 5pm. A personal favourite is the Heavenly Halibut ($30)—pan-seared halibut that literally melts in the mouth. Served with a dashi broth that’s to be poured over the fish, the dish also comes with Japanese fried leek, confit zucchini, charred Brussels sprouts, and sautéed mushrooms.

The Confit De Canard ($30) also comes highly recommended, starring crispy duck confit that comes with a citrusy honey-orange glaze. It is served alongside haricot beans, butter mash, and dried cherry tomatoes.

End your meal on a sweet note with their desserts. We found the “Tireme-Su” ($15), a deconstructed tiramisu spiked with rum, to be delightfully soft and addictive. Alternatively, try their jiggly Best Darn Creme Brulee ($15) with a sweet caramelised crust.

With their years of experience, the baristas here whip up unique brews. A crowd favourite is the Tre Fontane ($10), a concoction of coffee and lemon zest-infused soda, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

If you’re here for cocktails, try the Eye Opener ($20), featuring coffee-infused rum with coffee syrup. Alternatively, go for the Senor Curry ($20), comprising tequila infused with curry leaves, shaken with lime and mixed with agave syrup.
