Hawker bakeries seem to have a special place in many of our hearts, judging from how stalls such as Petite Krumbs went viral in the first few months of their opening. Another spot that offers affordable yet delicious bakes is My Aunty’s Bakery in Raffles Place, a great pit stop for those working or studying in the CBD!

When we reached around 11am, just an hour after their opening time, bakes of all kinds were already up on display: focaccia, tarts, madeleine, butter cakes—you name it, they’ve got it.

Let’s start with the cheapest items. As huge fans of Milo, we went straight for the Milo Madeleine ($1.80). It starred a chocolatey cake that was buttery and crumbly. We had the Earl Grey Madeleine ($1.80) too, which had a strong floral fragrance. The Hojicha Madeleine ($1.80) was a tad disappointing, though, as the nutty flavours of the roasted tea were rather faint.

The Orange Financier ($2) was less fluffy than the madeleine texture-wise, but we loved the chewy bits of dried orange baked into the cake. Just a side note, the financiers here are baked using almond flour, unlike the madeleines, which are made with a butter cake base.

Pistachio lovers, try the Pistachio Pound Cake ($3.50), featuring a nutty pistachio sponge cake with crunchy pistachio bits. A sugar glaze was drizzled atop the cake for added sweetness.

Cakes aside, the bakery also has fresh bread, including the Black Olive Tomato Focaccia ($2.50): thick, chewy, sourdough with cherry tomatoes and fresh olives.

We couldn’t leave without trying the Orh Nee Tart ($4), topped with two gingko nuts, and the Baked Choc Tart ($4.50). Orh nee dessert fans will love the former, as the yam paste was sweet, creamy, and earthy. 

The chocolate tart, on the other hand, reminded us of a molten lava cake but in tart form, where rich chocolate oozed out with each bite. We recommend having it warm for the best experience!

My Aunty’s Bakery is located at Market Street Hawker Centre, which is a short three-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT Station. The place gets pretty crowded during lunchtime, so we encourage you to come earlier to secure your bakes before they run out!
