New restaurants in Singapore this August
August is a month of exciting launches and happenings, especially with the upcoming National Day. There are plenty of food deals and NDP-related promotions to bookmark for those dining out! To add to the list, here are 16 new restaurants to check out in August 2024, including famous eateries and new menus.

1. Today Kampung Chicken Rice
Today Kampung Chicken Rice is the latest addition to the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood. Yes, kampung chicken rice takes the spotlight here, but you can also find breakfast items and zi char dishes!
Of all the dishes we tried, their Hainanese Kampung Chicken ($12+/$20+/$38+) was the most memorable as all three components of what makes a good plate of chicken rice fared well. The rice boasted the right amount of oil, the chicken had a good balance of fat-to-meat ratio, and the chilli sauce was sweet, tangy, and spicy thanks to the addition of pineapple paste. We really enjoyed pairing the dish with the Dragon Beard Kai Lan ($10+/$16+), starring crunchy kai lan stalks and crispy shreds of kai lan leaves. This is a must-get if you love veggies!

2. SOTBOX
Suntec City seems to be a new hotspot for legit Korean fare in Singapore, and the recent opening of a kimbap kiosk named SOTBOX proves just that. In case you didn’t know, SOTBOX is run by the same team behind the popular Korean restaurant Sotpot, which offers traditional Korean rice pot and steamed meat at Suntec City too.
For something filling to have on the go, get the Classy Classic ($8.90) starring 10 pieces of kimbap. Some key ingredients include egg, ham, pickled radish, carrots, and cucumber. But if you’d like to try something new, we recommend choosing from their kkoma kimbap range, which gives you mini kimbap instead of the usual long roll. You can’t go wrong with the Ham & Cheese Dancing Duo ($2), which tastes best when paired with a cup of the Beef Gomtang ($2.90) or Pork Gomtang ($2.40). FYI, all kimbap items are stored in a takeaway box, great for quick lunches or snacks.

3. Skosh
Skosh is a new cafe in Bencoolen serving up a variety of dishes with a Japanese twist. The cafe is located at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, which is within spitting distance of Bencoolen MRT Station.
With an extensive menu, it can be hard to decide what you want. We recommend the handmade onigiri wraps, which come in a variety of flavours such as Chicken Katsu Onigiri ($12) and Breakfast Onigiri ($8). For the mains, their Chicken Katsu Waffle ($24) is worth a try. This unique dish, which comprises a fried chicken katsu cutlet drizzled with yuzu maple syrup, puts an Asian spin on the classic fried chicken and waffles. Alternatively, you can’t go wrong with the Okonomi-Rosti ($16), a delightful marriage of two savoury pancake dishes: the Swiss rosti and Japanese okonomiyaki.

4. The Marmalade Pantry
Around since 1999, The Marmalade Pantry is a popular cafe that needs little introduction. Recently, they launched a new weekend brunch menu that’s worth checking out. We visited their branch at Oasia Hotel Downtown, which is within spitting distance of Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.
Their No Avo Avo Toast ($22++) came as a surprise as the classic brunch item tasted quite different from the usual avocado toasts served at other cafes. Here, the avo spread was blended with a bunch of tasty, healthy ingredients: green zucchini, baby spinach, leeks, chickpeas, and roasted garlic. Our favourite main, though, was the Beef & Potatoes ($30++). This substantial dish comprised Australian smoked beef brisket atop white bean puree, alongside baby potatoes, arugula, chimichurri, and roasted grapes for a bit of sweetness.

5. Royal Host
ICYMI: Royal Host has landed on our shores at Jewel Changi Airport! This new opening marks the popular Japanese restaurant’s first overseas outpost.
You won’t go wrong with their Omelette Rice (From $26.80++), drenched in a sweet-savoury sauce, and topped with fried mushrooms. FYI: their omelette is made with eggs from the Kyushu region! Otherwise, meat lovers should go for Royal Host’s signature: the “ROYAL” Hamburg Steak ($29.80++). This hearty main stars a chunky hamburg steak on a hotplate served on a hotplate, topped with your sauce of choice: brown butter, black pepper, or wafu sauce. The restaurant is located at the entrance connecting Jewel Changi Airport with Changi Airport MRT Station, a mere five-minute walk between both points—it’s the perfect place for a quick meal before catching a flight!

6. Taiwan Culture
The next time you’re catching a flight from Changi Airport Terminal 2, arrive a little earlier for a meal at Taiwan Culture. Run by the same team behind Penang Culture, the Taiwanese-inspired eatery offers wallet-friendly fare including Sesame Chicken La Mian with Salted Pepper Crispy Chicken ($14.90++) and Assorted Braised Beef La Mian ($18.90++).
On our visit, we also enjoyed the Seafood Omelette Rice ($9.90++), which came with whole prawns and creamy omelette, drenched in a savoury sauce, served atop rice. Complete your meal with some sides for sharing—the Hokkaido Crab Stick with Mentaiko ($8.90++) is a popular pick!

7. Bucketta
Seafood lovers, you’ll want in on this. Bucketta is a new restaurant at Downtown East offering a value-for-money seafood bucket buffet at just $39.90++ per person for the basic option. This gets you a huge bucket loaded with tiger prawns, black mussels, white clams, broccoli, corn, sausages and more.
For those who don’t mind spending a little more, opt for their Premium Buffet ($59.90++ per person). You’ll get a limited quantity of crayfish and giant river prawns, alongside free-flow sides such as Thai Pork Chop and Mama Noodles, which goes well with the seafood. Do note that this buffet has a 100-minute dining limit.

8. Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill
Popular seafood restaurant Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill is a date-night-worthy spot for special occasions. We recommend freshly shucked oysters, which you can get for just $2.50++ each during Happy Hour from Monday to Thursday between 5pm and 6:30pm.
If you’re up to splurge, order the Langoustine Nero Pasta ($36++), where al dente squid ink pasta is mixed with browned butter, then topped with four pieces of huge shrimp and tobiko. Otherwise, their massive Angie’s Original Fish ‘N Chips ($28++), served with jalapeno tartare and crushed peas, is worth trying!

9. Tim Ho Wan Peak
Tim Ho Wan PEAK is an atasified version of the popular Hong Kong restaurant in Marina Bay Sands. On top of its chic, aesthetically pleasing interiors, you can expect a slew of outlet-exclusive items filled with dishes you wouldn’t usually associate with Tim Ho Wan.
For instance, there’s the Olive Fried Spanish Pork Jowl ($25.80++), which features juicy pork jowl pieces, marinated in a secret mix of spices, then fried till golden and crisp. For mains, consider their Cherry Valley Duck Fried Risoni Pasta ($24++), a unique dish that swaps out rice for risoni pasta.

10. Osteria Mozza
FYI: Osteria Mozza has an expanded lunch menu for a limited time! Order Chef Nancy Silverton’s famous Grilled Cheese ($32++) for lunch this month; this signature sandwich stars shaved onions with four different cheeses: aged white cheddar, yellow cheddar, Swiss cheese, and Gruyere. It’s paired with pickles, hand-cut fries, and a salad to cut through the grease. If you want something even heartier, go for the Sooner Smash Burger ($45++), another lunchtime favourite featuring two dry-aged smashed patties, American cheese, yellow mustard, and caramelised onions.
While you’re here, don’t miss out on their pizzas, too. The Fennel Sausage ($40++), starring mozzarella, house-made sausage, scallion, red onion, and cream, is a must-try. Else, they have other interesting flavours such as Croque Madame ($40++) and Cacio e Pepe ($34++), topped with ricotta and Pecorino Romano cheese.

11. Ministry of Crab
If you love seafood as much as we do, you have to check out Ministry of Crab in Dempsey. Its original outlet in Sri Lanka made it to the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, so you know you’re in good hands here.
The crabs are categorised according to weight, with the lightest being ½ Kilo Crab ($75++), and the heaviest being the Crabzilla (from $350++), which weighs upwards of 2kg. You get to choose from seven preparation methods, though we recommend the Pure Crab, which is steamed, and then chilled. Enjoy the sweet crab meat on its own, then dunk it into the trio of dips on the side: melted butter, chilli vinegar, and calamansi ponzu. Otherwise, the Garlic Chilli Crab is another great way to enjoy the fresh crabs!

12. Tipo Strada
For handmade pastas that don’t break the bank, head to Tipo Strada‘s latest outlet along Hamilton Road, a seven-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT Station. This new opening, which marks the group’s third Tipo Strada outlet, offers hearty pasta mains, fresh bakes, and coffee!
The Creamy Crab ($19.90++), paired with our choice of Malfade, is our favourite main. This pasta dish comes with lots of crab chunks, paired with a spicy garlic cream sauce and al dente pasta strands. Alternatively, go for their Black Prawn ($19.90++), another umami-packed pasta drenched in a jet-black squid ink sauce, and topped with fresh basil. If you’re here for tea, they’ve got a good range of cakes and breads that are freshly baked in-house, including Earl Grey Loaf ($5.50++) and Cinnamon Roll ($5.50++)!

13. Cafe Oriental
If you’re looking for a quiet spot in the CBD to catch up with friends, search no further. Cafe Oriental is a hidden gem in Amara Singapore with modernised Asian classics, zhnged up with premium ingredients. For example, there’s the Golden Collagen Seafood Pao Fan ($26++), which gets you a comforting bowl of poached rice, abalone, scallops, clams, and fish fillet, submerged in a rich pumpkin conpoy broth. There’s also the option to top up $10++ for half a Boston lobster if you’re in the mood to splurge!
Those who love laksa can try the CEO Laksa ($24++), a unique take on the popular hawker dish. You still get the usual laksa components of fish cake, prawns, and tau pok, but squid-ink fish noodles are used in place of thick bee hoon for a bouncy texture and umami flavour.
Besides these mains, Cafe Oriental also has sharing-worthy sides such as Grilled Jumbo Chicken Satay ($18++) and Scallop Confit Kueh Pie Tee ($14++), great for sharing with the table.

14. Common Man Coffee Roasters
Good news for brunch lovers: popular cafe Common Man Coffee Roasters has a refreshed all-day menu with over 10 new items! If you’re here before 4pm, we recommend their Breakfast Pancakes ($26++): brown butter pancakes topped with chilli scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, burnt feta, and maple butter syrup on the side. Else, their Rainbow Rice Bowl ($24++) is a light yet delicious alternative that combines brown rice, spicy pineapple salsa, sweet potato chips, daikon, poached egg and more. If you’re feeling extra hungry, you can top up $6++ for grilled chicken or $8++ for smoked salmon.
Alternatively, load up on the protein with the Grilled Barramundi ($34++), a Common Man classic. This main gets you a thick slab of crispy skin barramundi fillet, paired with pearl barley, pickled cauliflower, spiced lentil, and a creamy pepper feta sauce.

15. Hawkers’ Street
Easties can rejoice with the opening of Hawkers’ Street, a new food court at Tampines 1 with 12 noteworthy stalls, some of which are Michelin-approved.
If you love wonton mee, try the famous Koung’s Wan Tan Mee, where their signature Dry Wanton Mee ($5.90) features al dente egg noodles mixed with chilli sauce and lard, topped with char siew and fresh greens. Michelin Bib Gourmand stall Tai Wah Pork Noodle is another must-try, with their popular Pork Noodle (from $5) available here. Other must-try stalls include Garden Street Kway Chap, where you can get a 1 Person Set at $6.50, and Nikmat Nasi Lemak by HUSK by HUSK Nasi Lemak in Bugis.

16. Nosh Bistro
From the makers of SG Food Truck, a popular food truck outside Marina Bay Sands, comes Nosh Bistro! This cafe recently opened their second outlet in Henderson, serving up Western food under $20. Try their signature Nosh Chicken Chop ($15.90+), where almost every part of the dish is house-made, from the chicken chop marinade to the large sidewinder fries. The chicken chop is served with a choice of either Black Pepper Sauce or Mushroom Sauce. We also added $2+ for their umami Mentaiko Sauce, which was blow-torched and topped with nori strips before serving.
The nearest train station from their Henderson outlet is Redhill MRT Station, which is a six-minute bus ride or 18-minute walk away.
