In an age where AI writers and robot baristas are a thing, perhaps it’s no surprise that a robot fried chicken chef has made its way to Singapore. Enter Robert Chicken, a Korean fried chicken chain that has opened its first outlet here in Basement One of Great World.

The above image depicts the robot chef in question. A flexible mechanical arm is what handles the majority of the preparation process, and it’s quite the spectacle—you can see it in action in this Instagram post. But of course, nothing beats going down and seeing the machine in full flow with your own eyes.

Original, Butter Soy, Chipotle Mayo, Sweet and Spicy, and Black Pepper—these are the flavours of fried chicken you can choose from. You can order 6 pieces for $11, 12 pieces for $18.90, or a whopping 18 pieces for $28.90. At the moment, only boneless fried chicken is available, but that alone should make for a delectable meal.

Regardless of which flavour you get, it is said that the chicken is crispy and juicy, while not being too oily. And with the flavourful sauces enhancing the dish, fans of Korean fried chicken should be pleased with the offerings here.

On our visit, we found the sweet and spicy flavour a little bland. If we had to pick just one flavour to recommend, it would be the black pepper without a doubt.

For the fickle-minded, you can opt for the Half-Half Chicken ($22.50), which allows you to pick any two flavours. This way, you get the best of both worlds.

In terms of sides, there are moreish offerings such as Cheese Balls, Rice Cake, French Fries, and even Twisted Donut, which will set you back $3.90. As more items get added to the menu, we can only expect Robert Chicken and its robot chef to provide an even more enticing Korean fried chicken experience.

There’s also the K-Cupbop ($9.90), which comes in five different flavours: Original, Butter Soy, Sweet and Spicy, Black Pepper, and Chipotle Mayo. Cupbop directly translates to “cup rice” in English, and this dish makes for a filling meal for Asians who need their daily rice intake. We did wish there were more chicken pieces, though.

For those who want a sweet treat after your meal, you can consider getting legit Korean doughnuts from Donas8, which stands right next to Robert Chicken. For more Korean fried chicken goodness, read our BHC Chicken review.
