Original Simon Road Hokkien Mee is a familiar name to those living in Hougang and Kovan, for the stall whips up some of the best hokkien mee you can get in the ‘hood. Now, those living in Toa Payoh will no longer have to travel down to the Northeast to get their hokkien mee fix as as the brand has opened a second outlet at the Lorong 8 Market and Hawker Centre.

The Toa Payoh outlet is run by the OG founder of the Simon Road Hokkien Mee brand, Mr Heng. The stall is not to be confused with an outlet with the same name on St George’s Road—that is run by Mr Heng’s former apprentice.Â

Original Simon Road Hokkien Mee has garnered fame for their wet-style hokkien mee, made with a recipe that has been passed down for generations. The hokkien mee is full of smoky wok hei, and the owner doesn’t skimp on ingredients either.
This Hougang Stall Serves Wet-Style Hokkien Mee With Generous Lard For Just $5
Prices start at $5Â and depending on the portion, you get several pieces of fresh shrimp, squid, pork belly slices, and a heaping spoonful of lard. You also get fresh calamansi to squeeze over the dish, to cut through its heady, smoky flavours.
To really get the most bang for your buck, we suggest the $8 portion, which comes with a substantial amount of seafood, including whorls of fresh shrimp.

The stall also has two different types of chilli, both house-made. The first is a sweet sambal, while the second is a fiery, sour chilli spliced with calamansi juice. We recommend going with both, as each brings something different to the plate.
