I live in Commonwealth, so The Star Vista is pretty much my second home. One of my favourite coffee spots in the mall is Swee Lee Social Club, a small and cosy cafe tucked in music store Swee Lee. Here you’ll find all you need to refuel, whether it’s a quick caffeine boost in between errands, or a catch up with friends over waffles and ice cream.

The cafe is hidden within the music store, so you’ll need to turn left and walk past the instruments after entering. Sit by the counter if you’re alone or waiting for a friend; there are ample charging pods there, which makes it ideal for those working on their laptop. Alternatively, snag a table if you’re dining in a group.

There are a couple of all-day brekkie items worth trying. For just $8, the Cheesy Toast and Scrambled Eggs is a steal. It’s prepared and assembled to order, served with seared cherry tomatoes on the side. You get a generous amount of creamy scrambled eggs atop the freshly toasted bread, with a sprinkle of chilli flakes for extra oomph. This fare is simple yet classic—perfect for starting your day with.

Those hankering for something sweet should definitely try their housemade waffles, available in a range of flavours. The Caramelised Banana Waffles ($15) features fresh bananas bruléed for a shatteringly crisp shell, topped with toasted coconut flakes and a scoop of ice cream. The mildly sweetened waffles are perfectly cooked to a golden brown on the outside, with a light and fluffy middle.

Other must-try flavours are the Matcha Almond ($15), drizzled with a house-made matcha glaze, and the Mixed Berry ($13), which comes with tart berries to offset the sweetness.

On top of regular espresso-based drinks such Latte ($5.50) and Mocha ($7), their barista brewed creations are worth a try. A refreshing pick-me-up is the Bitter Sweet ($6), a medley of espresso, yuzu, soda, and ice. The cafe makes a mean Chai Latte ($7), too!

If you’re in the area, another cafe you can check out is Taiwanese eatery Monki Cafe. Otherwise, head to The Headless Baker, also located in The Star Vista, to try their freshly baked French pastries.
