The Headless Baker & Sons at The Star Vista

Popular hawker-bakery The Headless Baker has opened a second outlet: The Headless Baker & Sons. Located on the ground floor of The Star Vista, a convenient 10-minute walk from Buona Vista MRT Station, the cosy cafe offers fresh viennoiseries like ham and cheese croissant and kouign amann, affordably priced from $3.

Here, the menu is different from its original stall at Ghim Moh Food Centre, which focuses more on tea cakes, such as lemon pistachio loaves and financiers, scones, and sable cookies. The bakery is run by an uber cool couple who have worked in a French patisserie in Melbourne, and at artisanal local bakery Starter Lab.

You don’t have to burn a hole in your wallet to enjoy great pastries. Sink your teeth into a Canelé ($3), a rum and vanilla-flavoured French pastry that requires an intricate preparation process to achieve its unique texture: a well-caramelised crust and custard-like interior. Also on the menu are flaky, buttery pastries in the form of Kouign Amann ($4.50) and Almond Croissant ($4.50).

Wash it all down with a cup of joe; the folks at the bakery source their beans from local roastery Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee. Choices include cold brew, white, black and filtered coffee.
