Taman Melodies JB cafe guide

Most people think of Mount Austin when it comes to cafe hopping in Johor Bahru, but there’s another cool neighbourhood worth checking out—Taman Melodies. Home to stylish, aesthetic cafes, many tucked into refurbished houses, Taman Melodies offers a more relaxed vibe compared to the busier, more touristy Mount Austin cafe scene. Bookmark these spots from our list of the best cafes in Taman Melodies for your next quick getaway across the border.

The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.32 as of 8 April 2026.

Their Onigiri Ichiju Set is a steal at RM28, giving you two pieces of onigiri, along with chicken collagen soup, seasonal pickles, and aji-tamasu. There are six onigiri flavours available: Negi Shio Cream Cheese, Ebi Tempura, Mentaiko Salmon, Spicy Tuna, Wasabi Furikake, and Okaka. For drinks, you can try their Matcha Strawberry (RM19), Matcha Coconut (RM17), or the Matcha Lychee (RM19), a lesser-seen beverage said to be uber refreshing on a hot day.

Hiritsu Coffee Roastery is a highly rated cafe that opens earlier than most, from 9am daily. At the point of writing, the coffee spot has an impressive 4.7-star rating from over 500 Google reviews! The space is simply decorated—instead of flashy decor, you’ll find a minimalist, industrial setup with cute posters tucked into every corner. You can also catch the baristas in action as they craft crowd favourites such as the Shaddock Gathered (RM18+), which we enjoyed during our visit. This beverage combines cold brew coffee with a generous layer of sweet cream, along with bits of pomelo.

The menu offers a mix of sweet and savoury options, including their popular Bring Me Go Croffle (RM22+). This dessert-style treat sees a crispy croffle topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a finger biscuit, and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

For something fruit-forward, try the Cyberpunk (RM26) or Mac Face (RM26). The former combines chocolate and grapefruit, while the latter pairs nuts with raspberries. If you prefer tea-infused desserts, the Wakatake (RM25) does the trick, starring matcha, white sesame, and rice flour.

Keijometo offers a Japanese-themed menu, with the Salmon Ochazuke (RM30++) and Mentaiko Tamagoyaki Sando (RM20++) being two of the most-ordered dishes. The former comes with grilled salmon topped with sea salt flakes and seaweed powder, served over short-grain rice with a cup of matcha-based broth to pour over your dish. 5. Nimmies Pastry Cafe

Nimmies Pastry Cafe is arguably one of Johor Bahru’s most well-known cafes, having made a name for itself with its baked goods and Bali-inspired vibes. Housed in a two-storey mansion, it’s also one of the most spacious cafes we visited on our last JB trip, easily accommodating around 70 customers at once.

We tried their Cromboloni, available in four flavours: Nutella (RM22++), Taro (RM20++), Pistachio Berry (RM24++), and Kinder Bueno (RM23++). Unfortunately, we found the croissant pastry slightly stale during our visit. On the savoury side, we recommend the Chicken Cutlet Green Pesto Tagliatelle (RM38++), featuring a slab of crispy chicken cutlet that’s fried to order.

We recommend going for their filled bagels—Smashed Avocado (RM26.90++), Spicy Buttermilk Chicken (RM27.90++), and Truffle Mushroom (RM32.90++). We especially loved the avocado one, slathered with sriracha chilli mayo and stacked with a hash brown, egg, and sliced cheddar cheese.
