In Singapore, it is hard to come by a Japanese eatery that serves quality food at pocket-friendly prices. The Japanese Food Alley, a newly-opened hawker stall at Chang Cheng Coffee Shop near Holland Village, delivers just that.

Initially located at Timbre+ at One North before moving to their current, larger space, the stall is run by a Japanese couple, offering a range of Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi, ramen, and donburi.

If there’s one thing that Japan is known for, it is ramen, and there are plenty of options at this hawker stall. Go for the bestselling Tonkotsu Cha Shu Ramen ($10.40) which sees chashu slices, and an ajitama egg in a rich and flavourful pork broth.

A dish you might not expect to get at a hawker stall is sashimi. Here, you can get Sashimi 3 Type at just $25.30! It includes four slices of each fish: salmon, tuna, and swordfish.

The Tendon Large ($14.40) also comes highly recommended. This dish consists of prawn, fish, and various vegetable tempura, laid on a bed of freshly steamed Japanese rice. It’s also finished with a light, soya sauce-based dressing.

Chirashi fans can opt for the Bara Chirashi Don ($18.40). While this dish is on the pricier side, it features heaps of premium ingredients such as salmon, scallop, swordfish, and tobiko.
