Singapore is home to plenty of Japanese restaurants, but it can be a challenge to find halal-certified options. The Ramen Stall in North Bridge Road has stepped in to narrow the gap slightly, with its extensive menu of halal Japanese dishes—including ramen—most costing under $15++.

There are eight types of ramen on the menu, from soup to dry, spicy to non-spicy. For those who can take the heat, their Mala Ramen ($14.90) is not to be missed. Here, a numbing, Sichuanese broth and QQ noodles are topped with minced chicken, a hanjuku egg, and beansprouts.

Otherwise, the Volcano Ramen ($13.90++) is another worthwhile option. You can customise your preferred spice level here, from level one to three. Each ramen also comes with a selection of toppings, from sliced chicken though to bamboo shoots. The chicken-based broth here is thick and flavourful, with that extra spicy kick—how much it has depends on you, of course.

If ramen isn’t your deal, or you’re looking for more carbs to jazz up the meal, you’ll be happy to know The Ramen Stall has a wide range of sushi and donburi options available.

This includes their Unagi Maki ($18.90++), where rolls of rice packed with crabmeat, cucumbers, and seadweed are topped by juicy unagi and ebiko. Also recommended is the Tempura Prawn Mango Maki ($14.90), a flavour bomb that marries sweet and salty.

For rice bowls, you can’t go wrong with their Japanese Curry Beef Rice ($13.90), which combines tender beef chunks with a mildly spicy Japanese-style curry. The Gyudon ($13.90) is another solid choice if you love shabu shabu beef and teriyaki sauce.

Don’t shortchange yourself of their sashimi options. Their classic Salmon and Tuna platters cost just $12.90 each, and the slices are as thick as they are fresh. Otherwise, try the Salmon Belly Sashimi ($16.90) if you’re willing to splurge a little more for fattier, melt-in-your-mouth rounds of the fish.

A wide selection of appetisers, from the likes of traditional Chawanmushi ($5.90) to Deep-fried Salmon Skin ($9.90) is also available on the menu for something to munch on to start off the meal.
