If you’ve been to Hong Kong, chances are you’ve eaten at Tsui Wah. The legendary cha chaan teng (tea restaurant) made waves when it opened its first Singapore outlet at Clarke Quay last June. Almost exactly a year on, this Hong Kong stalwart is opening its second outlet at The Heeren, in the heart of Orchard Road.

No news on the official opening date or any new menu items are available yet, so watch this space for more info! That being said, you can be sure that their signature dishes like Chicken Wings With Sweet Soy Sauce ($11++) will be available to draw in the throngs of tired Orchard Road shoppers.

Arguably, no trip to this HK favourite is complete without their Crispy Bun With Condensed Milk ($4++). It’s a deceptively simple dish, but oh-so-satisfying, as a sheen of caramelised condensed milk and sugar coats the fluffy buns. Having it with a cup of their signature Milk Tea ($3.50++ for hot, $4++ for iced) is mandatory, as it’s the quintessential partner to these sugary buns.

For a savoury option, look at their Kagoshima-style Pork Cartilage with Tossed Instant Noodles ($9.50++). Nostalgic and familiar dry instant noodles support intensely flavourful chunks of pork cartilage. It may seem strange to eat pork bones but these are stewed till soft, giving them tenderness and loads of gentle herbal and soy flavours.

With more Tsui Wah outlets gradually popping up around Singapore, it’ll be even easier to get an authentic cha chaan teng experience without spending on a plane ticket. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more outlets sprouting up soon in non-Central areas too, so Easties and Westies can have even easier access to these Hong Kong treats.
