United Square Food Street Is A Hidden Gem With Chendol Cheesecake And Mentaiko Udon

14th August 2019

Eat your way through United Square’s food street at B1

United Square has been one of our go-to malls since I was young, thanks to the array of eateries and shops catered to children located in the mall. If you’re a foodie like myself, you would not miss out on the many eateries that are found in the mall. For those who can’t decide on where to eat, head down to the food street at basement one for plenty of good eats including ramen, bubble tea, and jelly cheesecakes!

1. Bari-Uma Ramen

Flatlay comprising ramen and gyoza

Famous Japanese eatery Bari-Uma Ramen can be found at the basement of United Square. The broth here is prepared for six hours, and a classic dish to order is their Nori Tama Uma ($16.90++), which consists of pork-flavoured shoyu soup, grilled thick-cut char siew, an egg, and a heap of ramen noodles.

If you need your food with a bit of heat, get their Kara Tama Uma ($16.90++) which comes with the same ingredients in spicy soup. Don’t forget to add on their Gyoza ($6.90++ for five pieces) that’s known to be especially crispy and juicy!

2. Banh Mi 888

Flatlay comprising banh mi, fresh spring rolls and beef stew

Offering more than 10 varieties of legit Vietnamese dishes on the menu, Banh Mi 888 is the place to get your fix of affordable Vietnamese food. A classic Vietnamese dish not to be missed is the Fresh Spring Rolls ($6 for two pieces) featuring prawns, pork, and fresh veggies rolled up in a paper-thin skin.

Complete your meal with their scrummy Vietnamese beef stew Bo Kho ($11) or their hearty Vietnamese Original Sandwich ($7). As Banh Mi 888 is a pretty popular spot, be prepared to queue a little during their busy lunch and dinner hours!

3. TheJellyHearts

Jelly cheesecake is one dessert many wannabe-bakers would have tried making. However, not many can boast to be as successful as TheJellyHearts. Starting at $4.90 for two square slices, the jelly cakes are essentially cakes with a crowning layer of jelly, in flavours including cheesecake, chocolate, lychee, and mango.

The cakes are also sold as a whole, with interesting creations such as the Refreshing Chendol Round ($36.60 for six-inch cake) and Multi Layer Rainbow Round ($55.85 for six-inch cake). The latter features rainbow-coloured layers of cream cheese.
