Whiskdom opens cafe at Pari Burong in Bedok

Easties are blessed with a plethora of affordable cafes in Bedok and Tampines to choose from. Another spot to add to the list is Whiskdom, a popular bakery that shot to fame for its molten brownies and loaded bagels!

The new cafe is located in Pari Burong, a quiet neighbourhood estate in Bedok. It’s a short bus ride from Tanah Merah or Upper Changi MRT Station.

Fans can expect the same popular bagel sandwiches here. Familiar picks include K-Baegal ($17+) and Eggspolde ($14+), both signature flavours at Whiskdom’s old Bugis cafe, which has since shuttered.

An all-new bagel worth trying is the Double Tropicana ($17+), featuring two fried chicken cutlets with juicy pineapple rings, romaine lettuce, and barbecue sauce.

The chicken patties were crispy and peppery, pairing well with the sweet pineapple chunks.

FYI: the new cafe took over the space of The Forage Cafe, which is now defunct. If you’ve tried and loved The Forage Cafe’s waffles, you’ll be happy to know that Whiskdom Bedok’s version features the same recipe!

There’s the Jalapeno Beef Bolognese ($19+), a sweet-savoury combination of fresh waffles with minced beef bolognese, cheddar, mozzarella, and jalapenos, served with maple syrup on the side.

We thought the combination was too busy, with the peppery jalapenos and savoury bolognese clashing with the sweet waffles. Perhaps the waffles would taste better on their own, in the form of the Classic Waffles ($6+) with maple syrup.

I much preferred the Seafood Tomyum Pasta ($22+), topped with Hokkaido scallops, prawns, a sous vide egg, and tobiko.

Break into the runny yolk and mix all the components well before digging in.

The al dente linguine noodles clung onto the creamy tom yum sauce, so each bite was a flavour bomb of tangy, savoury, spicy, and sweet.

Caffeine addicts will be pleased with the range of coffee options here, including the unique Brulee Einspanner ($8.50+), capped with a caramelised sugar layer.

For those who don’t drink coffee, Pistachio Cream Oat ($9+) is another dessert-like concoction that stars pistachio cream, white chocolate, and oat milk.

That’s not all: you can also enjoy Whiskdom’s famous molten brownies and cookies here, priced at $6.50+ each!

The new cafe is fairly spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

We were there on a weekday afternoon and there was a steady stream of diners entering, despite it being past the lunch hour. I can foresee them being packed on the weekends!

Another hidden gem bakery in the East is Ben Baker, which sells swiss rolls, mochi, breads and more. Otherwise, read our guide to the best JB breakfast spots if you’re crossing the Causeway soon!
