You don’t have to cross the border for your KL dai lok mee fix with the opening of new eateries such as Nanyang Dao and EatAlley. Another one to add to your radar is Hei Bai Chao, a relatively new food court stall serving KL hokkien mee, chao ta bee hoon, crispy pork knuckle and more!
EatAlley: 7 Famous KL Eateries At This New Orchard Gateway Food Court
Located in Grantral Mall, a five-minute walk from Tai Seng MRT Station, Hei Bai Chao offers both KL hokkien mee and Singapore-style fried hokkien mee. You don’t always find a stall selling these two dishes, so this is one spot to bookmark if you’re craving both!

Their signature KL Dai Lok Mee ($8.80) is a must-try. Each plate is said to be packed with wok hei, featuring thick yellow noodles slicked with a rich dark soy sauce, brimming with all the necessary fixings: crispy lard, pork belly, and fish cake.

Their Fried Hokkien Mee ($7.80)Â is also said to be filled with a smoky aroma, and packed with lots of lard. You get a mix of thin bee hoon and yellow noodles soaked in a heady prawn stock, tossed with prawns and scrambled eggs, too.

Another must-try main is the Crispy Bee Hoon ($9.80) AKA chao ta bee hoon, a dish said to have been created by Restoran Ah Kaw in JB. We also read some reviews raving about their Braised Pork Bee Hoon (price TBD).

If you’re visiting in a big group, do order their Crispy Pork Knuckle, available at $32. It’s also available in a smaller serving size if the whole knuckle is too much for your table.

Hei Bai Chao sits in a hip-looking food court in MacPherson, with neon-lit signboards. Prices are on the steeper side but you get to dine in air-conditioned comfort. Apparently, if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch some live music performances there too!
Another must-try spot in Tai Seng is Ryo Yakiniku, which offers halal-friendly grilled meats in a coffeeshop setting. Alternatively, Frosted by Fang is nearby too, if you’re hankering for sweet treats! Previously a home-based business, this bakery recently set up shop under a HDB block.
Address: 601 MacPherson Rd, #01-31 Stall MR4, Grantral Mall, Singapore 368242
