Keijometo needs little introduction—the TikTok-famous industrial cafe at Taman Melodies has become one of JB’s most recognisable spots. Its fully concrete exterior follows through inside with bare walls, concrete tables, and minimal furnishings that give it a raw, art gallery-like vibe. Counter seating along the window is the best spot in the house if you’re visiting solo.
The menu leans Japanese, with dishes such as the Salmon Ochazuke (RM30++): grilled salmon with sea salt flakes and seaweed powder over short-grain rice, served with a cup of matcha-based broth to pour over the dish. Cool Coffee Project is a micro-roastery tucked inside a working car workshop near Mount Austin. Bev C’afe sits on the second floor inside a clothing store in JB City Centre—an unlikely pairing that somehow produces a solid solo spot. The industrial vibe keeps things low-key, with small individual tables better suited for one than large groups. The cafe is also close enough to Sunday Morning Coffee Shop, so you can visit both in a single morning.
Drinks-wise, there’s the Iced Charcoal Latte (RM14+) that’s popular for its striking jet-black colour, as well as the refreshing Sparkling Cascara Espresso (RM15+), which is made with the dried skin of coffee cherries. Rowan & Parsley is the furthest entry on this list at around 30 minutes from the checkpoint, but it’s worth every minute of the extra Grab fare on a slow day. The space has a sprawling outdoor garden where nobody gives a solo diner a second glance, and big tables feel fine with just you at them. There’s also enough shade, and the surrounding greenery does most of the work of making you feel like you’ve actually left Singapore.
They’re all about brunch plates here—the Big Brother Benedict (RM48+) gets you tender beef cubes and two poached eggs on toasted English muffins, topped with a dollop of Hollandaise sauce. KACJ Coffee is a minimalist cafe in Taman Pelangi, about a 10-minute drive from JB Customs. White walls, muted wood furnishings, and cement flooring make it the kind of pared-back space that’s easy to settle into on your own. Their breads are made fresh daily at their in-house bakery. The Sea Salt Butter Roll (RM5.90) is a decent snack, but the Yam Mochi Toast (RM11) is the more interesting order: toasted bread loaded with stretchy mochi and creamy yam paste. On the drinks side, there’s the Iced Oat White (RM17) for coffee addicts, and the Iced Hojicha Latte (RM17) for something non-caffeinated.
