Pasir Ris food guide
I used to live in Pasir Ris when I was younger, and I always think back to this neighbourhood fondly. Although I practically live at the other end of the country now, rediscovering Pasir Ris food scene always makes me want to move back there. Without further ado, here’s a list of the best Pasir Ris food places I’ve gathered that will make your stomach growl.

1. The Basil Inn

I consider it mandatory to hunt down the best Thai eatery in every neighbourhood I scour for good eats–which is why I’m so glad to have found The Basil Inn! Some people have even compared this place to Nakhon, in terms of its taste and pocket-friendly prices. A plate of Phad Thai ($9) is served deliciously stir-fried and fresh off the wok. You must try their Tom Yum Goong (from $13), with its sour hints of lemongrass and tongue-numbing spices.

2. Wild Olives
For affordable Western eats and pasta, swing by the highly-rated Wild Olives. The hawker stall at Pasir Ris Central has been serving up hearty portions of Western mains, largely under $10! We loved their Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Sauce ($7.20), which comes with your choice of two sides, from their Signature Mushroom Rice to Grilled Herbs Potatoes. If you’re looking to splurge, the NZ Sirloin Steak ($13.90) is worth the order!

3. Bucketta
Bucketta is a well-known Thai seafood place with outlets in Downtown East and Golden Mile Tower. Here, you can enjoy their Seafood Bucket Buffet, priced from just $39.90++ per person for the basic option. This comes with tiger prawns, black mussels, white clams, broccoli, corn, sausages and more. If you don’t mind spending a little more, go for their Premium Buffet ($59.90++ per person), which includes crayfish and a giant river prawn too. You also get unlimited sides to feast on, including Thai Pork Chop and Mama Noodles!

4. Yakiniku OK
Singapore has plenty of yakiniku restaurants, but if you’re in Pasir Ris, swing by White Sands’ Yakiniku OK. The fuss-free Japanese barbecue joint offers affordable yakiniku with meats sourced from the US, Japan, and Brazil.
Their signature OK Set ($21.90) comes with a trio of beef, namely short plate, tongue, and striploin, as well as veggies, kimchi, soup, and a bowl of rice. Otherwise, non-beef eaters can try their Toriniku & Kohitsuji Set ($17.90), comprising chicken thigh and lamb leg.

5. Obba Jjajang Express
If you’re on the hunt for cheap Korean food, swing by Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre for Obba Jjajang Express. The popular joint sells all your fave Korean-Chinese dishes, from Jajangmyeon ($6.80) to their Jjampong ($8.80). Pair that with a serving of Tangsuyuk ($9.80), AKA Korean sweet and sour pork!

6. Crown Prince Kitchenette
If you’re looking for a family-friendly restaurant in Pasir Ris, swing by Crown Prince Kitchenette. Located in Aranada Country Club, the restaurant specialises in seafood and zi char, designed to feed a group. House signatures include their Crispy Chao Tao Bee Hoon with Seafood ($18.80++) and their Herbal Roast Duck, priced from $22++ for a quarter.

7. Dian Xiao Er
If you’re looking to share a bit of herbal duck with the family, pay a visit to Dian Xiao Er at Downtown East. They’re famed for their Cherry Valley roast ducks, which are marinated with Chinese herbs and slow-roasted for hours before serving. Also, they have a value-for-money set meal where you get five different dishes, including the duck, from $74++ for two.

8. Butahage
You can now get popular Japanese pork don from Butahage at the new Pasir Ris Mall! The restaurant, which hails from Hokkaido, is famous for their pork donburi, where Nanatsuboshi rice short-grain rice and grilled pork loin slices are doused in an 80-year-old tare sauce. Order their signature Obihiro Meibutsu Japanese Pork Loin Don, which goes for $23.80++ for a large bowl and $18.80++ for the regular. There’s also a cheaper Obihiro Meibutsu Pork Loin Don (from $11.80++) that uses Canadian pork instead.

9. Tim Hortons
Another new addition to the East is Tim Hortons, which recently opened its doors at Pasir Ris Mall. The famous Canadian coffee chain is known for their doughnuts (from $2.90), which come in a selection of best-selling flavours such as Classic Glaze and Boston Cream. Pair your bakes with their coffee beverages, including the Salted Caramel Macchiato Iced Capp ($7), an ice-blended cappuccino that’s great when it’s hot outside.

10. Takagi Ramen Downtown East
Takagi Ramen is renowned for their affordable ramen, with most of their menu priced under $10, and at nett prices to boot. Their most affordable ramen is the signature Takagi Ramen, priced at just $6.90. Here, you get QQ noodles and a decent tonkotsu broth, with two slices of chashu atop.

11. Prawnaholic
Pasir Ris has a handful of prawn mee stalls, but Prawnaholic offers something a little different. They’ve modernised the hae mee formula here, serving up bowls of prawn mee with toppings such as an onsen egg, torched kurobuta pork, and handmade meatballs. The Special Prawn Noodle ($12) is the crowd favourite here, and comes dry, with all the components we mentioned above. You also get a gao and umami prawn broth alongside. There’s a $16 Special King Prawn Noodle option too, should you wish to splurge.

12. Waffle Aunty

Waffle Aunty is a hidden East-side gem at Elias Mall, a 10-minute bus ride from Pasir Ris MRT Station. The kiosk offers cute Smiling Egglettes, which are essentially light and fluffy egg-shaped pancakes stuffed with your choice of filling—popular picks include Biscoff ($2.50) and Black Sesame ($2.50)! You can get them at $12 for a box of six, or $10 for selected flavours. Besides these pancakes, you’ll also find Huat Cake, a spin on the trendy coin pancakes, each sporting a “發” embossing that translates to “huat”.
