When we reviewed Tanglin Halt’s gem of a bakery, Hock Ann Confectionery, we were drawn by their old-school decor and traditional offerings. Head baker Uncle Lee, who boasts over 35 years of experience, has now launched his very own bakery at a brand new location, under a different name: Uncle Lee Confectionery.

Now located along Jalan Pisang, a convenient seven-minute walk from Bugis MRT Station, the bakery sees a refreshed logo. The storefront sports a clean and modern look with a large window for natural light to stream in, alongside green and gold trimmings for an elegant look.

For those who are unaware, this is head baker Uncle Lee’s very own bakery. As he does not have proprietary rights to Hock Ann Confectionery, both businesses are unaffiliated. Nonetheless, you can expect the same best-sellers on the menu, including Butter Cookie ($19) and Custard Puffs ($0.60), all of which require online pre-order. There are limited items for walk-in purchases, so you’ll want to contact the store before dropping by.

Their eight-inch Kaya Cake ($28) is a must-try; think fluffy pandan sponge, layered with housemade pandan kaya custard. Do note that this cake is so popular that it has a month-long waitlist, so you should get in your order stat!

Uncle Lee is also known for his affordable custard puffs, which feature freshly baked choux pastry piped with a light buttercream. These throwback treats deserve a mention as they are hard to come by these days, especially at this price point.

The bakery has also rolled out their CNY goodies menu so you can plan ahead before the festivities kick in. Pre-order online from now till 31 December to enjoy 10% off your purchase when you use the code ‘CNY10%OFF‘ before checking out! The list includes Pineapple Tarts ($28) and Kueh Bangkit ($18).
