If you love Chinese-style min jiang kueh, Malay-style apam balik, or Indonesian martabak manis, check out Geylang Apam Pulau Pinang. This Muslim-owned hawker stall at Geylang Serai Market & Food Centre specialises in traditional apam balik that’s made fresh daily.

For those who are unaware, apam balik is essentially the Malay version of min jiang kueh. A popular breakfast or teatime treat, these traditional foldover pancakes typically feature a golden-brown exterior with a thin and slightly crispy edge. Some versions, however, lean dense and cakey instead.

Here you can expect old-school fillings such as kaya, peanut, corn, and red bean. Flavoured apam balik goes for $2.50 a pop, or $7 for three pieces. Purists can get their Plain ($1.70) pancake instead.

Additionally, you can mix and match the different fillings for an extra indulgent treat. Popular options include Peanut Butter with Chocolate Chip ($3) and Peanut with Corn ($3). Each additional filling requires a top-up of $0.50. For the full list of apam balik flavours, check out their menu above!
