Roast meats are a go-to option for many of us when we’re unsure of what to eat, and there’s often a debate about where you can find the best siew yoke in town. Kim Heng Roasted Delights has been racking up rave reviews for their mouthwatering charcoal-roasted meats, so we decided to head down and see if it lives up to the hype.

Food at Kim Heng Roasted Delights

We started off with their Char Siew Roasted Pork Rice ($5.80), which features a full plate of rice drenched in savoury gravy, huge pieces of sio bak, beautifully charred char siew, and slices of fresh cucumber.

Every plate was dashed over with a generous amount of gravy, and I particularly liked that it had a smoky undertone and wasn’t overly sweet.

The char siew definitely hit the sweet spot for me with just the right amount of char. It wasn’t too smoky to the point it tasted burnt. In fact, it had a deep caramelised sweetness and a good meat-to-fat ratio.

On the other hand, the siew yoke was a bit disappointing. While I appreciated that it came in big pieces, the siew yoke leaned salty and I felt that the skin could have been crispier.

Our next dish was my personal favourite━Pork Ribs Rice ($4.80) which came with four huge chunks of succulent pork ribs. Surprisingly, as someone who’s not too fond of bone-in meat, I thoroughly enjoyed them here.

There was a good deal of meat, which was fall-off-the-bone tender, on the bones.

Savour the pork ribs with a splash of lemon juice! This combination added a refreshing tang that helped cut through the greasiness well.

We couldn’t wait to dig into their Duck Rice ($4.30), which stars pieces of duck meat with glistening, crispy skin.

The duck meat was sufficiently tender, without being overly gamey. Unfortunately, I was rather let down by the skin, which was too burnt. Thankfully, the chilli sauce came to the rescue. Out of all the roast meats, I felt that the duck paired the best with the sourness of the chilli sauce.

The verdict

All in all, while the food at Kim Heng Roasted Delights may be pricier than most roast meat stalls, it’s worth paying them a visit, especially if you’re in the area. You’ll definitely leave with a full stomach thanks to their generous portions of both rice and meat.
