1. Surrey Hills Grocer

surrey-hills-grocer-flatlay

Popular Australian grocer and cafe, Surrey Hills Grocer, opened their doors in late 2023 at The Woodleigh Mall. Go for their specialty pancake stacks, namely the Fried Chicken Stack ($28++): two pieces of Pancake Parlour pancakes with crispy buttermilk fried chicken, chilli honey, parmesan cheese, and whipped butter.

If pancakes aren’t your thing, go for their wide array of brunch classics, pasta, mains, and salads. We recommend trying their newly launched Crab Pomodoro Tteokbokki ($26++), made using chewy Korean rice cakes with crab meat sauteed in a garlicky white wine tomato sauce.

8. JIN Kimchi Express

JIN Kimchi Express is a casual Korean eatery helmed by a young Korean native, with more than 10 outlets scattered across Singapore at the time of writing. Everything on the menu is really affordable, with most items priced under $10.

One of the cheapest items is the Julienne Radish Bibimbap, priced at only $3.50 for a small portion. You don’t get any meat in this, but you do get a lot of greens and a sunny-side-up! If you’re a noodle-to-rice kind of person, consider their Jjajangmyeon ($7.50) or Seafood Jjamppong ($8.80). We recommend pairing it with Tangsuyuk ($9.80), which is essentially a sweet and sour pork dish that’s best eaten with black bean sauce noodles.
