29th September 2025

Best hawker bakeries in Singapore

Hawker centres are no longer only homes to the best hokkien mee or best bak chor mee stalls—some of them even house hidden gem bakeries with affordable treats. From fancy bakes such as matcha white chocolate muffins and black sesame financiers to old-school buns and sugar doughnuts, here’s our list of the best hawker bakeries in Singapore.

1. Hung Huat Cakes & Pastries

Hung-Huat-Cakes-And-Pastries-Prep

Hung Huat Cakes & Pastries is a traditional bakery that’s been around for almost 50 years. The family business is currently helmed by a young couple who gave up their careers to bake full-time.

The couple is constantly coming up with new creations, and one of their most successful so far is the stunning Hokkaido Milk Mochi x Signature Teochew ($7). Each pastry boasts a flaky exterior with a stretchy mochi centre, complete with orh nee paste for a sweet and earthy touch. Their Black Sesame Orh Huat Tart ($20 for four) sells like hotcakes too, featuring chewy mochi and a nutty black sesame paste.

2. Petit Krumbs

If there’s one thing you must know about Petit Krumbs, it’s that the bakery is run by an ex-Mandarin Hotel pastry chef with years of experience.

While you’re at Amoy Street Food Centre, pay a visit to the bakery and get the Taro Mochi Egg Tart ($2.50). It’s similar to a Portuguese-style egg tart, featuring a flaky crust with a creamy custard core and chewy mochi filling. If Canele ($3.50) and Sourdough Cinnamon Bun ($3.50) sound like something you’d enjoy, we recommend going earlier to snag them, as they were sold out when we visited during the lunch rush.

3. Dough

dough-shiopan

Bukit Timah folks are lucky to have Dough, a hawker bakery at Bukit Timah Interim Food Centre. You’ll find lots of Japanese bakes—think shio pan—and French pastries here at wallet-friendly prices.

We were impressed with their Croissant ($2), a wonderful combination of buttery and flaky layers that were not too crumbly. Another popular viennoiserie here is the Kouign Amann ($2.80), a sweet and crispy snack with caramelised edges. If Japanese bakes are more your thing, get the Shio Pan ($2.30) instead for a value-for-money treat that’s decent in taste and size.

4. Divine Bites

Divine Bites at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre offers a range of trendy bakes, ranging from $1 to $5.

We had a few muffins to try, and our favourite was the Blueberry Crumble Muffin ($1.60), a vanilla-based cake with sweet-tangy blueberries. The Manuka Mochi Muffin ($2), which was mildly sweet from the honey, was a close second. If muffins aren’t your jam, consider the Burnt Cheese Cake ($5.50) instead; this indulgent treat was smooth and creamy. Not to mention, it’s more affordable than most cheesecakes sold elsewhere.

5. My Aunty’s Bakery

My-Auntys-Bakery-Pistachio-Cake

The CBD is not short of hawker bakeries, as proven by My Aunty’s Bakery in Raffles Place. Among the many cakes and breads offered here, they are known for their madeleines in a range of flavours.

We preferred the Earl Grey Madeleine ($1.80) to the Hojicha Madeleine ($1.80), as we could barely taste the roasted tea flavour in the latter. Their pound cakes fared better, especially the delicious Pistachio Pound Cake ($3.50): a pistachio sponge cake topped with crunchy pistachio bits and sugar glaze.

6. Bakes N Bites

We’ve never heard of chilled muffins until we stumbled across Bakes N Bites at Old Airport Road Food Centre. An elderly couple has been running this gem for the past 16 years, baking every item on display from scratch.

You can’t go wrong with their Triple Chocolate Muffin ($3.20), a bittersweet treat that boasts a smooth mouthfeel from the dark chocolate chips. Otherwise, the Fresh Orange Muffin ($3) is a better choice for something lighter on the palate, as it’s made with fresh, zesty oranges. Chilled muffins aside, there are Chicken Rendang Pie ($3), Chewy Brownie ($4.80) and more fresh bakes to check out.

Mr. Bready is run by two friends by the names of Rodney and Jason. The mighty pair specialise in huat kueh, made a tad differently from the traditional ones we’re familiar with.

There’s a variety of flavours to choose from, including the crowd-favourite Gula Melaka Sweet Potato ($1.80) and Raisin Walnut ($2). Otherwise, their Cinnamon Brown Sugar Bread Roll ($1.80) is another popular pick.
